how to find confidence interval estimate

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What information are you given?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you need to have your interval... you know how much confidence you want... so 1-confidence gives you alpha alpha/2 gives you the score .... do you know sigma or not??? that determines if you want z or t scores....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whether it is t or z they are both similar, but you NEED to be looking in the right place. if it is T scores you need to know your degrees of freedom which is n-1 (z scores none of that matters) either way the interval is found by xbar +- (z or t score alpha/2)(s/sqrt(n))

its hard not knowing numbers to throw in there, but thats it generally
