Medal rewarded:) What is the value of b in the quadratic regression equation for these points: (2, 5), (4, 11), (5, 41), and (9, -2)? A. -14.92 B. 10.76 C. 15.62 D. 26.06

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

do you have a calculator?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what would I need to do to find out my answer?

OpenStudy (ranga):

Go to this website which is a quadratic regression equation calculator. Enter the x,y values of the 4 points and click on calculate quadratic equation and it will tell you the regression equation: http://www.had2know.com/academics/quadratic-regression-calculator.html

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

yeah that works, but it would be wise to know how your calculator works

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

set your L1 as your y-axis and L2 as your x-axis input the values let me know once you've done that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im so confused lol

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

okay that means either your calculator is not built for graphing or you just don't know how to use it

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

what model and make is your calculator?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont have a graphing calculator lol, i just have my phone

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

that wouldn't work

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

USE this one http://www.mesacc.edu/~johrx98491/TI-Emulator.html it is an emulator that you can use with your computer I think Salman Khan of Khan Academy even uses it

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

I have a mac osx so I can't really vouch it myself, but my classmates have used it with their windows operating laptop

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is A the correct answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

??

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

I wouldn't know, because I don't have a graphing calculator at the moment

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

but if you want rapid answer use wolframalpha.com input "quadratic fit{insert all of your coordinates} use { } instead of ( ) so your first portion will have {{ and your last portion will have }}

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=quadratic+fit%7B%7B2%2C+5%7D%2C+%7B4%2C+11%7D%2C+%7B5%2C+41%7D%2C+and+%7B9%2C+-2%7D%7D there I did it for you so your b is 26.06 if it were rounded off to 2 decimal points
