Why did the Egyptians think that sheeps were gods?
Who in their right mind would think that?
Obviously the Egyptians Solomon, why did we abuse black people to be treated as slaves? Same question we always ask ourselves XD Why do we kill things to eat it? How did we know it was safe to eat?
LOL
the answers because the sheep commonly had a pure, curly, beautiful white coat and they ate only grass
@Kfins99, this is totally different, b/c killing things we eat, acc to most of the people makes perfect sense, but what Egyptians believed did not.
also the sheep were peaceful creatures, flocking in numbers and they grazed the land and put fear into the hearts of wolves
last parts a lie lol
everything else is true
Ok, that doesn't really describe them as gods though, (or perhaps it does?) I mean peaceful, white, clean creatures; is that how god is described? That would be more like an angel.
no iti s god because it is pure
and peaceful
are sheep demons?
but Gods are powerful as well. Your line 'and put fear into the hearts of wolves' i don't think this is true. How does a sheep ever scare a wolf? Common man.....
I said that was a lie dude lol
are sheep demons? I wouldn't say they are, but I would say they are angles rather than gods.
God that you can easily kill? What type of god is that?
maybe they can die easily
Like Jesu_, sorry if you're Christian?
but the ancient Egyptians believed in many gods what if they were gods of bathing or god or purity?
yes, I know that they worshiped many gods, they were like greeks. God of rain, God of war, etc...
I smell sheep right now
god of smell
?
Another good point, they smell bad, so they can't be thought of as God(s).
lol gods don't bath for YEARS look at kratos he doesnt even use jergens lotion
GOOD JOKE, but Seriously The god that all 3 monotheistic faith admit as god, doesn't need to take a bath, as opposed to this. I get your initial point I am making a different point that Egyptians sucked (mentally).
LOL
all hail king solomon
tnx
so Solomon whats your input on these gods the Egyptians had?
my input... What do you mean?
I know staff about them, because I finished the entire "Talmud" have you heard of this book?
I have, it didn't mention anything?
Yes, true, the Talmud doesn't mention why Egyptians thought...
Apropos to the upcoming Pesach holiday, a recent guest post on DovBear asked the question "why was a sheep chosen for the Passover sacrifice?" I wanted to explore a bit some relevant passages in the Torah, not to answer this question per se (and thus I will not be discussing the important passages in Ex. 8:22 and Ex. 12 - especially 12:46 with regards to the prohibition to break the bones of the pascal lamb) but to look at some of the descriptions and commentaries related to sheep worship and shepherding in Egypt.
No, my question was why were the Egyptians worshiping sheep, what so god-like have they found in them?
that is a good question..
Thank you! I got some explanation from ChrisNeedsHelp, but I didn't really liked it that much.
They did not, in fact, believe that sheep were gods. they believed that sheep were messengers for the gods, and they kept as many as they could to increase their chances of a divine experience, they also sacrificed them to get the attention of the gods.
I really though that the Egyptians did worship sheep, and they would never sacrifice sheep. That's why prior to exodus, Moses told Pharaoh that the Jews can't sacrifice to God in Egypt being that it is something disgusting to the Egyptians. That was sort of an excuse for the Jews to leave Egypt (in the first place). I could agree to the fact that they weren't really "worshiped" rather were messengers, but I am positive they didn't sacrifice sheep. (The pharaoh didn't really care about this though, he ate sheep in secret.)
This conversation made me laugh so hard! lol guys
Why?
Sheeps! I agree with you Solomon. It makes no sense whatsoever to worship a sheep. They are stupid, vulnerable and not very attractive animals lol.
OK, I can see that, but they were like super profitable at that time, they needed nothing besides grass. Then they just reproduced in vast numbers. Also about sheep, ChrisNeedsHelp said "the sheep were peaceful creatures, flocking in numbers and they grazed the land and put fear into the hearts of wolves". I can see that for everything besides the last part, "put fear into the hearts of wolves", to me this is kind of an absurd.
lol DUDE I said I was kidding about that!
Oh, my bad.... sorry, @ChrisNeedsHelp.
But for any part, where do the really get that from. I am an orthodox Jewish guy and I know this really well, but only from a Jewish view.
Yeah that is true. During the Egyptians culture sheep were probably easy to maintain and profitable. And yeah i read that he said that. Although he did say that he was lying about that part. I think that he was just trying to be funny
Yeah, I recognized that, ty!
Yeah makes no sense to me! Its not even logical. Have you hears that the Hindus practically worship cows? same aspect.
Yeah, that's also weird.
Yeah some cultures just have some weird characteristics that define them :/ Not that they make to much sense to me...
But they have to have some reason for what they believe.
Yeah and i cant see what that possible could be in a sheep. I cant imagine that they worshiped a cheep because it is white and 'pure' as was said earlier, because the Egyptian gos resembled nothing of purity. They were all dark and evil looking if you know what i mean.
Yeah, I see your point.
Yeah i dont understand it lol
In mathematic terms, no solution.
haha yeah
OK, ty, I gave away the medal already, but I would have given it to you if I knew that you, will come, I'll still medal you though.
