ANYONE PLZ HELP MEDAL WILL BE GIVEN

OpenStudy (dobby1):

What does the author achieve by mixing exact and approximate numbers in "A Contribution to Statistics?"

OpenStudy (dobby1):

do you know what this means

OpenStudy (dobby1):

I just need help understanding what the problem is wanting and what exact and approximate numbers are in English

OpenStudy (dobby1):

@e.mccormick

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Funny.... but I can answer that for other reasons. I took statistics. An exact answer is one that can happen when you know every data point in the set, have a snap shot of a whole event. Approximates are normally what you deal with. You don't know everything so you use rules that let you apply a sample to find a generalization about the whole that is based in numbers and science.

OpenStudy (dobby1):

ok thx that will help alot

OpenStudy (dobby1):

:)

OpenStudy (dobby1):

ok I know you I only asked for what they mean but I am having trouble understanding what the author would achieve by doing this? :(

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

There was a paper on Bayesian Statistics that went over it pretty well. Basically that is you start with a 50/50 value and keep going based on success and failure and see the trends until you have a generalization.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

So, they are talking about some contribution, right? In the paper you are looking at, what contribution was made?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

AKA: what change in how statistics is done or seen or used?

OpenStudy (dobby1):

they are talking about what people know and how that affects them it is a poem and the state of the people slowly decreases till they are like dellusional and then it keeps going

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Hmmm...

OpenStudy (dobby1):

yeah that is what i said

OpenStudy (dobby1):

yep

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

OK, so they are writing a poem about statistics. Statistics deal with counted numbers and estimated numbers. So, if you are going to write a poem about that topic, how can you get people to feel the statistics in your poem?

OpenStudy (dobby1):

uhm I am not sure but I just looked at my work page and it directly gave me the answer

OpenStudy (dobby1):

thx so much though you gave me most of the answer and it was completly right. :) :) :) :) :)

OpenStudy (dobby1):

I am so sorry that I had you give me some of the answer I hate when I end up doing that

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

LOL. My point was this, because you want to get the reader to feel statistics, you (as an author) would include aspects of statistics in the work. That is one reason to have all sorts of numbers of different types in there.

OpenStudy (dobby1):

Thx so much that would have gotten me an A+

OpenStudy (dobby1):

I have to go now its time for dinner bye

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Have fun!

OpenStudy (dobby1):

thx for the medal

If you are a student at CA and you choose to copy this answer into your quiz, you will be caught. Additionally, the suggested answer is only partially correct.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

@WiseCATeacher Good! Gives them something to think about without giving it away. Plus, they should always do their own work in the end.
