How does Lady Macbeth change throughout the course of the play?
Lady Macbeth first appears in the play to be an average innocent woman. After hearing about her husband's encounter with the three witches, she begins to have evil thoughts. Lady Macbeth then concludes to resolve the situation by persuading her husband to do whatever is necessary in order to make the prophecy of seizing the throne come true. Her desire for authority and control drives her to create a foolproof plan to eliminate Duncan as king and replace his position with her husband. Making her husband king, will make her queen also. In the span of Act I, Lady Macbeth goes from being an average innocent wife to a devious murderer. She plots the assassination of Duncan, and manipulates Macbeth to do the sinful action.
However, after the killing of Duncan, Lady Macbeth begins to feel guilty for what she has done. Her conscience affects her to such an extent that she eventually commits suicide.
