Please help me?..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Landon is standing in a hole that is 6.5 m deep. he throws a rock, and it goes up into the air, out of the hole, and then lands on the ground above. The path of the rock can be modeled by the equation y=-0.05x^2+4.5x-6.5, where x is the horizontal distance of the rock, in meters, from landon and y is the height, in meters, of the rock above the ground. How far horizontally from landon will the rock land? Round your answer to the nearest hundredth of a meter.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a. 18.07 m b. 35.96 m c. 9.04 m d. 71.93 m

OpenStudy (rajat97):

put the value of y=6.5 and then solve the quadratic equation so you may get the answer

OpenStudy (phi):

when the rock is out of the hole, and on the ground, it will be at a height of 0 solve the equation -0.05x^2+4.5x-6.5=0 can you do that ? (one way is use the quadratic formula)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes let me try

OpenStudy (phi):

There is a fly in the ointment here! None of your choices a-d matches the solutions to -0.05x^2+4.5x-6.5=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it says we can round to the nearest hundredth meter

OpenStudy (phi):

But I am getting 88.53 meters which is not very close to any of your choices.

Maybe we did something wrong..
