A sign of mass 230 kg is hung from two identical perfectly vertical wires. what is the tension in each wire?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The tension is just the force of gravity multiplied times the mass of the sign. F = ma; F = 230 kg * 9.8 m/s^2 = 2254 N since both wires are supporting the sign, the divide the force by 2; so each wire has 1127 N of tension
