1. y - 5 <= 6 (add 5 to both sides) y <= 6 + 5 y <= 11 2. 8 > d - 2 (add 2 to both sides) 8 + 2 > d 10 > d or d < 10 3. 3.8 >= b + 4 (subtract 4 from both sides) 3.8 - 4 >= b - 0.2 <= b or b >= -0.2

@texaschic101 How would you know for 2 and 3 where the arrow points?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

2. 8 > d - 2 8 + 2 > d 10 > d all this is saying is 10 is greater then d. It can be written like 10 > 10 (10 is greater then d) or d < 10 (d is less then 10) 3. -.02 <= b This is saying -.02 is less then or equal to b. It can be written as -.02 <= b (-.02 is less then or equal to b) or b >= -.02 (b is greater then or equal to -.02)

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

oops..typo on the first one...can be written like 10 > d

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

does that help ?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

you know that 5 is greater then 4. You can also say 4 is less then 5. You understand the concept now ?
