A signal flare is fired upward from ground level with an initial speed of 294 m/s. A balloonist at a height of 2450 m sees it pass on the way up. How long will it be before the flare passes the balloonist again on the way down? I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO SOLVE :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Think about the effect gravity has on the flare

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if the flare launches with an initial speed of 294m/s and the effect of gravity on all objects is 9.8m/s^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when the flare reaches its maximum height, its velocity is zero. with that information, taking into account gravity, you can find a distance

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you know how far above the balloon it will be, then you know it falls with gravity, so you can find the time it takes to get to the balloon
