Anyone Really good in Chemistry???

OpenStudy (zpupster):

ask

OpenStudy (zpupster):

please lala ask your question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh I got that one I have one more hold on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@zpupster ?

OpenStudy (zpupster):

Ethene (ethylene) is a flat (planar) molecule so a 2-dimensional model would be fine. Propane needs a 3-D model since each carbon has a tetrahedral arrangement.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I still don't really understand this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its asking what is the difference

OpenStudy (zpupster):

hang on be patient with me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

of course! ;)

OpenStudy (zpupster):

this ethene it is 2d (flat) is has to do with planar geometry-- the shapes of molecules and how they are arranged in space and also there electron pairs. give me a sec and i will show you propane

OpenStudy (zpupster):

propane is 3d it is not flat the ends have a tetrahedral shape. i will try to find you article that can explain about these shapes of molecules.

OpenStudy (zpupster):

here you go short and simple explanation of molecular geometry http://intro.chem.okstate.edu/1314F00/Lecture/Chapter10/VSEPR.html

thanks! you think you can help me on my new question
