In terms of structure and/or bond types, explain why iodine solid (I2) is easier to break than solid sodium chloride, NaCl. can someone please help explain this.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

NaCl is an ionic compound... its each ion is surrounded by a negative charged ion, and its surrounding ions are located at the vertices of the regular octahedral. But I2 is just a assisted with a single sigma bond with each other.... so it is easier to break iodine rather than halite. keep asking & answering........
