Olaf is standing on a sheet of ice that covers the football stadium parking lot in Buffalo, New York; there is negligible friction between his feet and the ice. A friend throws Olaf a ball of mass 0.400kg that is traveling horizontally at 12.0m/s . Olaf's mass is 74.2kg

OpenStudy (schrodingers_cat):

Is the question you want to know Olaf's speed after he catches the ball? If so this is case of conservation of momentum. So, m1V1=m2V2 Solve for V2= .400(12.0)/(74.2) = .0646 m/s Hope this helps:)
