OpenStudy (mrnebula):

What is the scale factor in the following dilation? The red triangle is the pre-image. (I'll have image bellow in comments) *3 *1/3 *2 *1/2

OpenStudy (mrnebula):

OpenStudy (kainui):

Take a guess, what do you think?

OpenStudy (mrnebula):

2?

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

Well, is the blue triangle bigger or smaller than the original (red) triangle? If it is bigger, then you automatically know that the answer will be a whole number, not a fraction. If it is smaller, then you know the dilation will be a fraction.

OpenStudy (mrnebula):

yea i know that so 2 right?

OpenStudy (kainui):

@MrNebula yes exactly! Just take one side length and figure out what number you have to multiply it by to get the new side length. You went from 3 to 6, so since 3*2=6, that's really all there is to it! =D

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

yes, good job!

OpenStudy (mrnebula):

YAY I DO KNOW STUFF

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

lol
