Finding the value of an integral using a known value of another integral?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\int\limits_{-4.5}^{-2}f(x)dx=-2\] Find \[\int\limits_{-2}^{-4.5}(3f(x)-1)dx\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We know that\[\int\limits_{-2}^{-4.5}f(x)dx = 2\] So,\[\int\limits_{-2}^{-4.5}3f(x)dx = 3\int\limits_{-2}^{-4.5}f(x)dx =6\] Now, we can calculate \[-\int\limits_{-2}^{-4.5}1dx = -x ] -4.5 \rightarrow -2 = 2.5\] Therefore, our answer should be 8.5.
