Can someone explain to me independent and subordinate clauses? I've read things about it but it still confuses me.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think I might be able to

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay! Thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I had the same question on my test! Are you cyber schooled?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Really? What school?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Connections Academy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Seriously?? Same here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Really!! Awesome!! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah! What grade?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12th. You?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9th

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh wow, you're a lot younger! ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't mean that as a bad thing.. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

An independent clause can stand alone as a complete grammatical sentence. It contains the main subject and verb of the sentence. It might or might not have an object. Example : A cat is in the room. The cat......is....in the room.-- Subject....Verb.....Prepositional Phrase Showing Place

Haha, I know! Well, my birthday was a couple days after the cut off date at school, so if if I were born a couple days earlier, I would be in tenth grade. :) But I take tenth and eleventh grade classes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, yeah that makes sense! Thank you! What about subordinate clauses?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, lol. Well at least you get to enjoy being in easier classes longer. lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, haha. Uhm I don't mean to sound weird or anything, but you should add me on facebook, then it would be easier to talk, because this cite is acting weird from my laptop. Yeah subordinate clause, give me a sec to type

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A dependent clause cannot stand alone as a grammatical sentence because of an extra element that changes an independent clause into a dependent clause. It must always be connected to an independent clause. For example: •Because I was late Extra element + Independent clause = Dependent clause Because I was late Subject Verb Adjective

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does that help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, I think I understand! Thanks so much and sure, I don't mind adding you on fb. OS is acting weird for me too. Here is my fb: https://www.facebook.com/FabulousMe95 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay! Btw my name isn't Anabele, haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Megan ;) Well my name isn't Karl lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Krista ;) lol I hope that helped though!
