calculate the probability P(X>or equal 7) where X~B(10,0.3) both exactly and by using a normal approximation

OpenStudy (amistre64):

mean = np standard deviation = sqrt(npq) should give allow the approximations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

should give all of the approximations how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could you give me an example?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

a normal distribution uses a mean and standard deviation. the mean of a binomial distribution is: np the standard deviation of a binomial distribution is: sqrt (npq) in this case; n = 10, p=.3, and q is defined as 1-p, or .7 in this case.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the other caveat with the approximation has to do with adding 1/2 to the endpoints of the interval. X >= 7 |dw:1386074968361:dw|
