•Understand the basic rules of rounding numbers. In whole numbers, you round to the nearest ten, hundred or thousand. You can even round past a thousand if your number is high enough. Any single number five or higher, you round up. Anything four or lower you round down. For example, take the number 12,549. The tenth place is the number 49. That would be rounded to 50. The hundredth place is the number 549. Round this to 500. The thousandth place is 2,549 and this rounds to 3,000. A simple rule, look at the number to the right of the place you need to round. This will tell you if you need to round up or down. •2 Convert the fraction to a decimal. Divide the top number (numerator) by the bottom number (denominator). For example, 17/38 would be 17 % 38 = 0.447. •3 Round the decimal. The answer to step number 2 was 0.447. Round this to the hundredth. The second 4 is in the hundredth position. Since 7 is larger than 5, you change the 4 to a 5 and drop the 7. The answer would then be 0.45. •4 Change the decimal back into a fraction. The last number in 0.45 is in the hundredth position. So that will make the denominator 100th or /100. The decimal is removed and you are left with 45/100. •5 Find the lowest common denominator. To do this, you divide the lowest number possible into 45 and 100 evenly. This would be 5. So, 45 % 5 = 9 and 100 % 5 = 20. The answer is 9/20. now i'm going to let you have a shot at your own problem by yourself lets see what you come up with :) Read more: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100930144623AAmG3TI

Now if you got 4.5 then you are correct and there is no need for rounding the answer for it is already the nearest half it is equivalent to \[\frac{ 5 }{ 2 }\] as a fraction
