I'm confused about one step, in 4-3[(5-3y)/2]y, does it equal 4-[(15-9y)-2]y or 4-(15+9y)-2]y ? I'm just a little confused about what the minus sign does.

hartnn (hartnn):

the question is \(\large 4- 3 [\dfrac{(5-3y)}{2}]\) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, sorry, I think this would be a little clearer:\[4 - 3y(\frac{ 5-3y }{ 2 })\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4 is attacked to the same fraction, but I'm not worried about that part.

hartnn (hartnn):

ok, so you're worried about this part only \(-3 (5-3y)\) right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah

hartnn (hartnn):

i see that you are distributing +3 and not -3 because your - sigh remains out side only so, |dw:1386232159805:dw|
