Two students in your class, James and Annie, are disputing a function. James says that for the function , between x = -3 and x = 3, the average rate of change is 0. Annie says that for the function, between x = -3 and x= 3, the graph goes up through a turning point, and then back down. Explain how James and Annie can both correct, using complete sentences.

I am kind of lost on this. I don't know whether i should explain how to find the rate of change and how to find the turning point to be going up through a turning point then back down, or if it is something else... Can someone help me?

This is like the third time I've answered this so it's gonna be brief. For avg rate of change to be zero, all that matters is that the y-value at x=-3 is the same as the y-value at x=3. Nothing else matters.

ok thanks
