lim x→−3− (x + 4)/(x + 3). I know the answer is -infinity, but can you explain? thanks

OpenStudy (jonnyvonny):

Well, you can draw it out. At x=-3, there is a vertical asymptote. At x=1, there is a horizontal asymptote. Now, just plug in values a little before and after the vertical asymptote, and estimate where the rest of the graph should be. |dw:1386637316572:dw|
