(-6,1),4x+y=7

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

(x,y), so -6 = x, and 1=y. plug in the values for x and y in the equation

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

then solve

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you but i got y=-4x-23 an i wanted to know if it was right

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

how did you get that? It's wrong. 4x + y =7 4(-6) + (1) = 7 PS> this isn't a true solution. what's the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-6,1),4x+y=7

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

What's is this from? It does make sense for the question to just be that. What are you supposed to be learning/doing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

write an equation of the line that passes through the given point and is parallel

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

Oh, well that explains it. I was gdoign the wrong thing! First, rearrange the equation so it is in the right format. y = -4x + 7 Parallel lines have equal slopes. So the new equation has to have -4 as the slope too. y = -4x + b Plug in (-6,1) into the equation and solve for b then, plug the value of b you found into the equation y = -4x + b, and you have your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you so much

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

you're welcome
