water enters a cell when the solution surrounding the cell is ?

Water enters the cell when the surrounding environment has a higher concentration of water molecules (hypertonic). Water leaves the cell when the cytoplasm contains more water molecules than the outside of the sell thus the surrounding solution is hypotonic towards the cell. Passive transport is when there is no real energy needed for the transport to happen. Osmotic pressure from the exchange of water in and out of a cell membrane does not require kinetic energy. Thus, the entering and leaving of water in a cell is passive transport.
