ln(1-x)+ln(3-x)=ln8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Whatever you do to one side, you do to the other. How do you get rid of any ln's?

hero (hero):

\(\ln(a) + \ln(b) = \ln(ab)\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so: \[\ln((1-x)(3-x))=\ln(8)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so: \[\ln(x^2-4x+3)=\ln(8)\] or: \[x^2-4x+3-8=0\] \[x^2-4x-11=0\] now use the quadratic formula so you get: \[2 \pm \sqrt{15}\]
