OpenStudy (annie96):

Variation in a trait is a required condition for natural selection to act on a population for that trait. Assuming a population of organisms started with only one form of trait, what are two ways variation in the trait could be introduced into the population? Explain your answer.

try google

OpenStudy (thadyoung):

lmao...google

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or your textbook, idk??

OpenStudy (thadyoung):

is it saying that there is one traite for the whole species?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

May be wrong, but I think this should help: one of them would be mutation and i believe the other would be adaptation Mutation would happen randomly through either internal processes (like DNA errors) or through external stimuli (becoming immune to a certain disease) Adaptation would happen through natural selection over time. Camouflage on animals of prey would be a good example. Lets say the trait is to have brown fur to match the woods. if the organism were to adapt by developing stripes or spots these color variations would break up the animals silhouette to predators and ultimately increase it's chances of survival
