2. The combustion of butane (C4H10) occurs spontaneously in the presence of oxygen. The reaction forms water vapor and carbon dioxide. The enthalpy of this reaction is –2877.5 kJ. Write a correct thermochemical equation for this reaction. How is this equation developed? What does this equation tell about the reaction?

OpenStudy (azureilai):

\[2C_{4}H_{10}+18O_{2} \rightarrow10 H_{2}O+8CO_{2}-2877.5kJ\] Basically you take your reactants, put it on one side, then products, put it on the other, and you balance it so that no atoms are lost or created on both sides. http://www.chem.tamu.edu/class/majors/tutorialnotefiles/enthalpy.htm

Yes I understand this but is this a thermochemical reaction I have gotten this balance equation form but not the thermochemical equation.

OpenStudy (azureilai):

Oh ok. This might help then http://faculty.ncc.edu/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=Og3LnK0N-Qg%3D&tabid=1937
