Find the distance from(-4,-6) to the line defined by y=2x+7. Express as a radical or a number rounded to the nearest hundredth

OpenStudy (phi):

One way is to: 1) find the line perpendicular to the given line, that goes through point (-4,-6) 2) find where these line intersect 3) find the distance between the intersection point and point (-4,-6)

how can I find the line that's perpendicular?

OpenStudy (phi):

if you have a line with slope "m", a line perpendicular to it will have slope -1/m ( i.e. "flip" the slope and multiply by -1) once you have the slope, use point-slope formula y - y0 = m(x-x0) where (x0,y0) is a point on the line
