Bond Polarity

OpenStudy (homeworksucks):

How do you determine bond polarity? I sort of understand it, but not quite

http://dwb.unl.edu/Teacher/NSF/C06/C06Links/www.uis.edu/7Etrammell/organic/introduction/polarity.htm How do you determine bond polarity? You need a fairly detailed periodic table to do a specific finding. Labeled per element is an electronegativity reading. To determine the bond type, you need to subtract one element's reading from the other (usually the smaller from the larger). I think the general consensus is any difference above 7 is considered ionic and anything above 1.5 is polar covalent. For example, in O2, the electronegativity difference is 0. Since 0 < 1.5, that means the bond is nonpolar covalent.
