Describe how the skin cells near a cut behave. What role does contact with other cells have in the behavior of cells near a cut?

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

Skin cells have a limiting factor known as "contact inhibition". Essentially if the cell is in contact with another cell, i.e. touching it, it will stop dividing. So when skin cells are cut, the contact is lost since a gap is formed. This is how healing works, the cells will divide until they contact each other again; at that point contact inhibition prevents further division. ~yahoo answers
