Medal for best answer! Is the line through points A(7, 2) and B(3, 1) parallel to the line through points C(–4, –4) and D(0, –1)? Explain.

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

find the slope of each line using the points given, then if the slopes are equal, then the lines are parallel

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i can remember- how do u find the slope?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*cant

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

isn't the slop 7 and 3? for these points?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

howd u find that?

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

\[m = \frac{ y _{2} - y _{1} }{ x _{2} - x_{1} }\] m = slope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahhh! ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hold on can u check my answer?

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

sure

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

oi i forgot that...lol i just learned it like a few weeks ago too...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

srry- just a sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they arent parallel the first slope was -1/-1 and the second slope was 3/4 is this correct?

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

the first slope was actually - 6, and the second was 3/4 But yeah, they aren't parallel

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i see wat is did wrong thank you!

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

you're welcome
