What value completes the square for the expression?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x ^{2}-16x\]

OpenStudy (kagıtucak):

it is square of x-8 (x-8)^2=x^2-16x+64 so add 64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer is 64?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x^2-16x=0\]this?

OpenStudy (kagıtucak):

yea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x^2-16x+8^2=0+8^2\]think of it like this.

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

The easy way to do it, for\[\Large ax^2 + bx\] is to divide b by 2, and square it:\[\Large \left( \frac{ b }{ 2 } \right)^2\] and you add that to both sides of the equation.
