What is DNA
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is a molecule that encodes the genetic instructions used in the development and functioning of all known living organisms and many viruses
|dw:1387627442068:dw| What it stands for: Deoxyribonucleac acid. How it looks like: It is a molecule, made up two sugar phosphate backbones in the shape of a double helix. Joining them together are co-ordinate nitrogen base pairs (they look like the rungs of a ladder). What is its function: The DNA contains a sequence of codes (base pairs), which under the process of protein synthesis can produce an assembly of amino acids, or proteins. If proteins help structure a cell, and some are enzymes so allow chemical reactions to occur within it, we can safely say it controls the cell, kind of like a blue print.
