What is the value of the dependent variable if the value of the independent variable is –4. Help Please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f(x)=-3x^2+5x The independent variable is -4 f(-4) = -3(-4)^2 + 5(-4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah but what is f? thats what I'm trying to find out @KirbyLegs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f(-4) = -3(16) - 20 f(-4) = -48 - 20 = -68 The dependent variable (y) is -68 Does that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah so f itself is not functioning as anything in the equation is is f the independent variable? @KirbyLegs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dependent variable*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f is the depdent variable, but f(x) is also y. x is always independent Yeah i caught that mistake XD

Alright I get it now Thankyou so much! @KirbyLegs
