solve the equation if 0 degrees is greater than or equal to 0 greater than or equal to 360 degrees. COS x = -1/2

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

cos(x) = adjacent / hypotenuse = 1 / 2 which angle would make that true? |dw:1388452848850:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

opposite?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

lol look at it this way then what angle would cos(x) be? |dw:1388453009238:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhh 60 degrees?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yep :) but they want a negative 1/2 ... cos is positive in the first and fourth quadrants and is negative in the second and third |dw:1388453165880:dw|

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

soo... ummm... >.> I've told you I'm not good at trigonometry >,< so I might be wrong x = (180-60)degrees (cos(60) in the second quadrant) and x = (180+60)degrees (cos(60) in the third quadrant)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what is the answer lol

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

x = (180-60)degrees and x = (180+60)degrees hopefully you know how to add and subtract? :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

240 and 140

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yup :) (that's what I got, but idk if it's right :/ )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well thanks lol

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

glad I could help :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok about to post the next ques :)
