Mods, admins, I have a complaint.
I am surprised that there are times when there will be no mods online at all. This is dangerous because things have gone out of control multiple times and no one could do anything. I tried. I'm not sure if this is what you are doing, or if it's too much to ask, but can there be a shift system? To make sure that at least one mod is on at all times. I think it's a big demand, but I have panicked a few times before. I try to keep the young ones safe as much as I can and things like this(offensive users going out of control) scares me. At least, can I know what I can and should do to help?
I totally agree with you Wolfe, This site has gone wild, Other users saying offensive inappropriate things to others. Something need to be done about this accusation. Because it is very harsh. Bullying is another thing here. This is a study site, I don't think people should be bullied here too, because that is just horrifying. People come here to Get help on homework, Help others, and Meet new people. Not to get called names, and get bullied.
This is a problem that has been going on since the beginning of time. A shift wouldn't work, because of the simple reason that the mods are human beings with personal lives just like you and I. A shift would require some sort of pay. It's not going to happen unless they volunteer. The real solution would be adding more mods from different time zones so that there will be a CHANCE that there will be an alert mod online at all times. For the time being all YOU can do is report the users and e-mail Openstudy and hope for a quick response.
Hi, \(\bf{\color{green}{~~My~name~is~ Compassionate}}\) Yes - this problem has been addressed in the past. The only thing you can do is report the abuse, and hope a moderator is online to receive the abuse-report. The moderators help run the site for completely free - and like Jessika said, they have personal lives, too. If you find an action abusive, suggest they read the \( \large\bf \underline{\href{ /code-of-conduct }{Code~of~Conduct}}\) If this action continues - they will be suspended the moment a moderator's attention is grasped. Also - you can Community Suspend the user. Once a user receives so many abuse-reports, he is automatically suspended. Try blocking the user, too, for the time being. The issue will be handled when the staff catches wind, so stay calm. Repetitive Abusers will be handled by the Administrators themselves. \(\bf{\color{green}{-~~OpenStudy~Ambassador:~Compassionate }}\)
Alright thanks for your input guys.
We can never have enough mods. The community has to be self aware and self moderated. You as members of the community have the power to create and sustain a community - with the culture that you seek. So it is also up to you - each one of you - to do the right thing. And when you see someone behaving poorly - nicely but firmly tell them not to do it and then ignore them. Just refuse to interact.
A disciplined person is a moderator to him or herself. @wolfe8 With the amount of time that you are here online, perhaps you may be able to contribute by preaching more about self-control and self-discipline, oh and how about that old teaching about not giving in to peer-pressure. We know what the problems are and there can never be a perfect solution, but the real question should be, what role would you empower yourself to contribute to the cause.
I need to save Preetha's response as something I quote every now and then. Thanks ma'am. And I'm sorry if it sounded demanding with the shift thing. It was more of a suggestion.
