OpenStudy (shylovesyou11):

I need help.. lol Solve this system of equations using any method. 3x – y = 4 2x + y = 11 A (3, 8) B (3, 5) C (5, 1) D (5, 11)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I would suggest elimination, add the equations to each other to find x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea me to plug in the numbers

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

5x = 15 Solve for x

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

No need plugging in, do what I said, and plug in what you get for x instead of x to solve for y. Do you know how tHe_FiZiCx99 got 5x=15?

OpenStudy (shylovesyou11):

I have no clue.. lol

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

OK. add the equations like this 3x – y = 4 + 2x + y = 11 ------------- 5x + 0y = 15 5x=15 x=3 so far so good?

OpenStudy (shylovesyou11):

Ohhhhhhh, Thats how he got it.. And yes

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Ok, can you solve for y?

OpenStudy (shylovesyou11):

Sooooo the answer would be 3,8 right?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

No.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Plug in 3 for x. 3x – y = 4 --> 3(3)-y=4 ---> 9-y=4 --> y=5 2x + y = 11 --> 2(3)+y=11 ---> 6+y=11 --> y=5 So also verified that in both equation it's (3,5)

OpenStudy (shylovesyou11):

Ohhhhhhh, I put in 8.. Well, Thank you!!! ^_^

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

You welcome!
