OpenStudy (jadeishere):

okay, couldnt find anything very useful, so im going to make a guess based on the slight gain of knowledge I just acquired when John taylor was president, he attempted to get texas to be annexed. In June of 1844, the Senate, with its Whig majority, soundly rejected the Tyler-Texas treaty. So a few years later, he tried again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry im half asleep lol

OpenStudy (ilovebmth1234):

so how am i supposed to word that?

OpenStudy (jadeishere):

Let's see.. it actually started in 1843 when John Taylor, the past-current President of the United States, decided to go after Texas being annexed in a 'lovely' pursuit. So, you could say that many political partied had disagreed, and didn't want to start a war with Mexico

The American-mexican war, also known as the Mexican War was a war between the United States of America and the United Mexican states which lasted for two years. 1846-1848

im guessing your good in history?

OpenStudy (ilovebmth1234):

ok i got this information i just need help summarizing it :) After the treaty was signed, Houston was elected president of the Lone Star Republic. One of his first official duties was to ask the U.S. to annex the territory. Gaining Texas would help the U.S. meet its goal of stretching all the way to the Pacific Ocean. However, many problems remained before the U.S. government would annex the territory. The practice of slavery in Texas was a concern. Additionally, Mexico claimed that Santa Anna signed the treaty only out of fear for his life. The Mexican government said such circumstances should make the treaty illegal. Despite these protests, Texas continued to seek annexation. It was another 10 years before Texas joined the Union, however. The matter of annexation led to debates within the U.S. government and, eventually, war with Mexico.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, I've got a stronghold on History and English!!!!!!!!!!!

OpenStudy (ilovebmth1234):

can you help me summarize this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (ilovebmth1234):
