Can someone please guide me through this System of Equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

{2x + 7y = 1 {-3x - 4y = 5

@agent0smith @ganeshie8 @brendalopez @ranga

@yazed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, solving the System of Equation. {2x + 7y = 1 {-3x - 4y = 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I want to use the substitution method, would it be correct to make y = 1 - 2x div 7?

OpenStudy (nikato):

Ok so 2x+7y=1 -2x. -2x --------------- 7y=1-2x --- ------- 7. 7 So y=1-2x ----- 7

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

To me it is a LOT easier to multiply 2x + 7y = 1 by 1.5 and add it to the other equation

OpenStudy (nikato):

So yes, that's correct. Now u want to suns tittle this value of y into the second equation

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

-3x - 4y = 5 +3x +3x -4y = 3x + 5 /-4 /-4 /-4 y = -3/4x - 1.25 You can plug that in for y or put the first equation into slope-intercept form

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

I would've done elimination method >.>

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Yeah, I don't like those awkward fractions either.

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

y = -0.75y -1.25 if you want to make it easier when you plug in.

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Why not 2x + 7y = 1 times 1.5 3x + 10.5y = 1.5 then added to -3x - 4y = 5

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

6.5y = 6.5 y = 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, thank you @nikato @tHe_FiZiCx99 and @wolf1728 All great, I wish I could give you all medals.

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

Mhmm

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

2x + 7 = 1 2x = -6 x = -3

OpenStudy (nikato):

Ur welcome!!

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

and NO ugly fractions

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

u r welcome :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah sorry I couldn't answer this question dar bear, but I can tell you that I love you and strive for good grades ^.^

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

It's okay bae @brendalopez
