i have a question i have a mac bootable usb and i want to install that and dual boot with windows 8 how do i do that will give medals

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, I take it this is a Windows machine rather than a Mac?

OpenStudy (factor):

yaa

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, I gotcha uhm this can be a very long and tedious process. I will walk you through the entire thing but I must say that I am not responsible for any data loss or hardware damage that may occur. Everything is up to you, just telling you how I have previously done it before.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First off, I want to make sure that you backup all of your data, make sure you have your USB for the Mac OSX and also if you have the Windows disk it may be handy just in case something happens. Now, your hard drive will have to be at least 120 GB or yah know somewhat decent size to hold everything and to get good performance. So first make sure you have backed up ALL of your data just in case you lose anything!! and then head over to https://neosmart.net/EasyBCD/ and download the Non-Commerial free version of EasyBCD (This is what we will use to dual boot the two Operating Systems)!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The next thing we will need to do is to setup a second partition for the Mac OS, and for this step you can use either the Computer Management tool located in the Administrative Tools within the Windows OS or you can download a program like GParted which you can put on a USB and boot from to manage the partitions. I personally always use GParted because I find it a thousand times easier and find that everything goes smoother. If you want to download GParted you can go to http://gparted.org/livecd.php and download it from there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But I will tell you how to partition your drive using the Computer Management tool, and GParted is pretty close to it, you should be able to figure it out and if you can't we can always connect and I can help you. So first, go to Start >> and in the search box type in Computer Management or you can go to Control Panel >> System and Security >> Administrative Tools >> Computer Management. This will run the Computer Management tool and you will have to click the "Disk Management" link under "Storage" on the left hand side. This will also show you all of your drives which will be located on the right hand side. Now, you need to find the drive that you want to divide (partition) so that you are able to dual boot. If your computer isn't already partitioned into different sections then this will be easy. If it isn't partitioned into different sections pick your main drive which should be at least 100 GB in size and then right click on the drive and click "Shrink Volume". (NOTE: If your drive is split up into multiple partitions already you will need to determine which partition does what. You may have a backup partition, a system reserve, etc. and you may need to delete partitions, but make sure you are careful when doing this.) It will now ask you how much you want to shrink the drive by. I would recommend to have at least 40-50 GB for the Mac Operating System, and when you are telling the computer how much to shrink the drive by you will have to do so in Megabytes (MB). So 40 GB is equal to 40960 MB, and if you want more or less space you can go to this link (Just Google) and change the number int he Gigabyte column to the number you want to shrink by and it will ell you the converted rate https://www.google.com/search?q=GB+to+MB&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a. Once you have entered the amount you want to shrink by, just click the "Shrink" button. OK, so you have now shrinked the volume and it will show you that in the display, but a shrinked volume is no good if you have not turned it into a working partition! So, now you will just have to click the "New Simple Volume" buton and this will open a Wizard that will guide you throughout the process. Read through all of the wizard and do what is says, and click next, do this until it asks you what drive letter you want to assign it. You can choose any driveletter you want. And then just continue with the wizard. You will eventually get to something that says "Format Partition" and click the "Format" button but make sure you have the following settings: 1. NTFS File System 2. Default Allocation Unit Size 3. The Volume Label can be whatever you want to name it 4. You can either do quick format or long format (extended) not sure what it says here. The extended or long may take a half hour it may take 5 hours. It will take a lot longer though. Now, just click the "Next" button and ensure that everything looks good and if it does, click "Finish". Now, right click on the volume that you just created and click "Format" and then click "Start" and wait until it is done! You can use GParted for this as well, and it would work basically the same. I would say that if this doesn't work I would really consider using GParted because your disk will be in use while doing all of this so it may not work. GParted runs as a bootable disk so your disk will not be in use, therefore no errors. If you need help with GParted just let me know, and if you need help with any of this part just let me know. But once this is all done formatting, this drive will be where your Mac OS will be installed to.

Rather than installing Mac, this would be called "Hackintosh" and this can take a while to complete sometimes. But seeing how you already have your Mac OS saved on a bootable USB, you saved yourself some time. You will first need to get into BIOS and change the boot order. This depends on your PC, as soon as the computer starts up you will need to click F12, or F6 or whatever your computer says. The seocnd the computer starts up take a quick read and see if it says something like Del, F12 (or any other FXX) Setup or BIOS or even something along the lines of Change Boot Device or Boot Order, etc. If you can't find this please let me know and I will figure it out for you. But this is crucuial unless your computer is already setup to boot from a USB when it is plugged in. So, now go to http://www.tonymacx86.com/downloads and Download iBoot. You will need to install this to a blank DVD or to another USB drive so we can boot from it. If you have a blank DVD I would recommend downloading and installing imgburn from http://imgburn.com/index.php?act=download and using that to burn it to a DVD remember the DVD has to be bootable. Now, restart the PC and get into your BIOS and change the boot order to boot from CD and then if you can do the following: 1. Change SATA to AHCI mode 2. Change HPET to 64-bit mode 3. Select Load Optimized Default Some of these may be available some may not be. Just look in your BIOS and see if you can find anything on them and make the changes and save and exit. It should restart your computer and boot from the CD (iBoot) there should be something along the lines of a disk in the middle of the screen and a aple with some eyes at the top. When youu see this, eject the CD and insert the USB drive. (Hopefully this will work with a USB drive, and if not you may need burn your Mac onto a DVD) and then press F5 when it asks. If everything worked correctly you should see a screen that asks for your langauge, and select your language then click Next. Now, you will be asked which partition you want to install Mac to, choose the 40 or 50 GB one that we created earlier. Go throughout the installation and you are done.

OK We are almost done, whew! When you have Windows 7 and and Mac OSX installed together the Windows 7 overwrites the Macs bootu p and this is where EasyBCD comes into play because it is just a Boot Selection Program. So you will need to forget about Mac right now and boot into the Windows Operating System partition. Go to where you downloaded the EasyBCD file and install it. You may need administrative privileges for this, so just to be safe I would right click and choose "Run as Administrator". Once it is installed, run the program and you should see a button on the main screen that says "Add/Remove Entries", click the button. In there, select the Mac tab located on the bottom, and choose the Generic x86 PC and then Name it if you want to. You don't have to and then simply click the "Add Entry" button. You should now have Windows 7 and the Mac showing up under "Manage Existing Entries". Close out of EasyBCD and restart your computer. Now you should see the options to boot into either Windows 7 or Mac. You are all done, just complete some random settings to make it work the way you want! If you have any questions please just let me know, I will be more than happy to help you out. I can connect to your PC, talk you through it, answer questions, etc. Just let me know!! Hope this helped you.

That seems a very thorough response above, but just in case you'd like an article about installing windows 8: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2344661,00.asp
