I need help with my biology homework.

2 cousins have been discovered who have a genetic defect similat to ob/ob mutation in mice. For each of the following proposed treatments state the expected outcome and the reason why you think that outcome will occur. a. daily injections of leptin receptor blocker b. daily intravenous of leptin c. daily injections of NPY into the hypothalamus d. Daily intravenous injections of CRH

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ob= obese

OpenStudy (aaronq):

what is the result of genetic defect, phenotypically?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it will go on to next generations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@aaronq

OpenStudy (aaronq):

i mean, what is the effect on the cousins? they're obese?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (aaronq):

i know that the lepton hormone regulates metabolism, is some way or another. do you know if it decreases or increases appetite?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

go to page 5 @aaronq

OpenStudy (aaronq):

well once you find out, determine how it would affect the people. Say if it decreases appetite, then they will eventually lose weight. If it increases it, then the opposite. note that the injection is a blocker, not an agonist.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Leptin is a cell-signalling hormone vital in the regulation of appetite, food intake and body weight. Studies have shown that an absence of leptin in the body or leptin resistance can lead to uncontrolled feeding and weight gain @aaronq
