Translate the sentence into an inequality. two times the sum of a number and 7 is atleast -16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let \(n\) represent this number. Then set up the inequality following these steps: 1. If \(n\) is this number. How do you write the expression "the sum of a number and 7"? 2. Once you complete step one, multiply this by 2. 3. Once you complete step 2, we now write the inequality. In particular, at least -16 means -16 (inclusive) or larger. What inequality symbol best represents this wording? Can you take things from here? :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1)n+7 2)n+7x2=14 and the equality symbol would be greater then or equal too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i meant 17

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Careful about step 2; it's the quantity n+7 times 2 -- i.e. 2(n+7). And yes, it's going to be a greater than or equal symbol, so you should have \(2(n+7)\geq -16\). Does this make sense? :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes it makes alot of sense! thanks so much :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem. Glad to be of assistance! :-)

Ten times the sum of a number and 27 is at most 30
