What materials slow light waves down? Does it have to do something with the density? Please help me understand, medals will be given.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When light passes through materials like water or glass, it slows down some because the photons interact with the surrounding molecules. Also, (generally but not always) the denser the material, the slower the light will pass through.

What about air? Would that make it even slower? @Catseyeglint911

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Air does slow down light, but because glass has a greater density than air, the light will slow down more when it passes through the glass.

ohh okay, that makes sense! Thank you so much! :)
