what is magnitude of a vector?

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

What kind of answer are you expecting?

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

^^ I mean do you just want the standard definition or are you looking for clarification?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ummmm.... definition please? :D lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i was watching the video that was supposed to explain something about vectors, but it said that the two vectors had the same magnitude and direction... but they were not in the same spot on the graph... that confused me, because i thought that they would be the same if they had the same magnitude and direction.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh... is magnitude the length of the vector?

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much :D :D :D

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

For a (free) vector; its magnitude and direction are the only thing that uniquely identifies it. Its point of origin may be anywhere. In other words, you can translate a vector without affecting its properties.

oh. thanks :D
