What is the nuclear binding energy in joules for an atom of lithium? Assume the following: Mass defect = 6.9986235 × 10ÈÆ© kilograms. Use E = mcÆ, with c = 3 × 10§ m/s.

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Welcome to OpenStudy. I believe you find the difference in mass between Lithium's mass defect and actual mass from the periodic table http://www.ptable.com/ and use the formula

i'm stuck on this question too. maybe we can help each other out. we know E=mc^2. we have c and m right?

i used a TI-84 plus calculator and when i entered in (6.9986235*10^-29)*(3*10^8)^2, i got 6.29876115 e-12. i hope you can find the answer from here.
