compare plains and mountains in details

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@e.mccormick

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

On a different question?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Have you gone over the hydrological cycle? It covers how river valleys are made, which has to do with mountains and water flow.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

OK, so anywhere the water can't easily cut became a mountain. That is one way mountains were built. Well, the places water could cut became valleys.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ok

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

So you are going to have differences in rock types because of that. What rocks do you think would be more on the mountains and what ones more in the valleys?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mountains: Igneous Metamorphic Sedimentary not to sure about plains though

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

yes, but the mountains are going to have more Igneous and Metamorphic covered by a thin layer of sedimentary that did not wash down hill. The alluvial fan at the base of the hill and the valley the river washes over will have more of the sedimentary. That is because it is going to get washed off the hills and gather lower in places. And a good bit of it will make it all the way to the sea.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

The valleys will also have more of the decomposed particles as verious forms of soil.
