ok here you go..=) good luck..=) are you good at simile, metaphor, and personification. Questions? im stuck.. if you could help id be most appreciative..=) Each quotation below contains a figure of speech. Type the exact words that make up the figure. Then type s for simile, m for metaphor, or p for personification. -"Now when the young Dawn showed again with her rosy fingers, . . ." -". . . to take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing end them?" - ". . . motionless as a cloud the . . . man stood . . ." - "On the moors the hare is running races in her mirth." - ". . . to run over better waters the little vessel of my genius hoists its sails."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its basically asking for the 5 statement what is.. simile, metaphor, and or personification.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.(young Dawn showed again with her rosy fingers) I think is P 2.not sure but i think P 3. as motionless as a cloud)S 4.i think M???not positive. 5. I have no Idea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is Dawn a person or thing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a thing. i believe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why do you not think M? it might be. i am not so sure. did you get it wrong once already??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah.. it said its not m. yeah i got it wrong before..=/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah here ill find the defanitions..=)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just for kix

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol ok, I think that one is P because it is said a hare is running races in her mirth. I looked up mirth and it says amusement or laughter. and a hare can not laugh.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah true.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A "simile" is a rhetorical figure expressing comparison or likeness that directly compares two things through some connective word such as like, as, so, than, or a verb such as resembles. Although similes and metaphors are generally seen as interchangeable, similes acknowledge the imperfections and limitations of the comparative relationship to a greater extent than metaphors. Similes also hedge/protect the author against outrageous, incomplete, or unfair comparison. Generally, metaphor is the stronger and more encompassing of the two forms of rhetorical analogies.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

SIMILES, METAPHORS, AND PERSONIFICATION These are all ways to describe something. Similes make comparisons through a "like" or "as" statement. Metaphors make comparisons by saying that one thing "is" another thing. Personification is giving non-human things the characteristics of humans. SIMILE: The clouds are like cotton. My alarm clock is like a siren. METAPHOR: The clouds are cotton. My alarm clock is a siren. PERSONIFICATION: The clouds sleep in the sky.
