Determine which relation is a function A {(−4, 3), (−2, 3), (−1, 2), (2, 5), (3, 2)} B {(−4, 1), (−2, 3), (−2, 1), (−1, 5), (3, 2)} C {(−4, 1), (−2, 3), (−1, 2), (3, 5), (3, 2)} D {(−4, 1), (−2, 3), (−1, 1), (−1, 5), (3, 2)}

Easy which one has the choice that none of the x's are the same?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, the first number in each set of parenthesis is x right?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

if there are at least 2 same values of x which map to a differents value of y then the relation is not a functions eg { (2 ,2), (1,3), (2,5)} is not a function because the x values 2 map to 2 in one case and 5 in the other a one-to-many relation like this is not a function functions are either one-to-one or many-to-one relations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok....

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

D is not a function because of the (-1 , 1) and (-1, 5) can you see which one is?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

Check out A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok hold on

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

sorry gotta go now - if you check out A it does not contain any one-to many mappings

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok cool thanks all message you if was right ok?
