Help don't know what to mulitply

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm suppose to use elimanation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve for x or y first so multiply either the 4 to the top and 7 to the bottom to cancel the x's out and solve for y or multipy by 7 to the top and 2 to the bottom to cancel out the ys and solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kay thanks @fiberdust

OpenStudy (anonymous):

take the top one 7, then make it negative -7, then multiply the bottom row take the bottom one 4, then multiply it to the top row.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then you will have x cancel.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 7x will become 28x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and 4x becomes -28x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah meant to say - 7 and 4 or -4 and 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then you can just the rows.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kay so y=2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and x=1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

awesome okay how bout this one? i got -3x=-7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Multiply top row by bottom number (in front of x) Multiply bottom row by opposite (negative) or top number (in front of x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This general rule will always work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can't you just get rid of y? then solve for x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u should get y = 3 and x = 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes should get -3x = -15 then x = 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can do whatever you want. I actually didn't look at the problem and just gave you general method.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Question: What is that in your profile picture?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hedghog, i love them; they are so cute!

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Yes yes they are XD...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok confused @fiberdust

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry didn't mean to confuse u

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol so you subtract or add the ='s too?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you @fiberdust and @wio

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u add the rows after elimination step has been done. (u multiply one of the rows by a negaive if the two rows are same sign). for example, -4y + 4y will cancel so u can just add the rows.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh.. thankyou >.<

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you sound like a math teacher @fiberdust

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your welcome, hopefully i unconfused u. yes i'm in pursuit to become one ty

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol really? asl?

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Cheers to fiber's dreams!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

CHEERS!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm older so not ur typical age college student lol thxs from indiana male

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cool, 30's? or older, younger?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah 30s

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cool, it's good for people to do what they love no matter how old or young, unless it's like acid haha

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

I am a random teenager...follow me on G+ XD https://plus.google.com/u/0/101593494385577144669/posts/p/pub

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im a random teen too!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't look it though i fit in mostly .... true i always planned on teaching when i got older thought it would be in my 40s but i'm glad i'm pursuing now. When i was in third grade i knew i wanted to become a teacher in life.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow, i hope i have your courage to become a phtographer and horse trainer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you will make it especially if u work towards it... women can multitask better so it wouldn't surprise me one bit if ur able to do both.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your welcome, well just holler at me if u need help with any more math questions. I'll try and help but i don't know it all. laterz

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bye laterz really? jk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hi wio

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hi @wio

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hi, did you finish?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now i am subtituting(sp?)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solutions to a quadratic equation is finding zero right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thnxs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so can you help me with this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You need to use quadratic formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Otherwise, try to factor.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks
