What is the solution of

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=16 and x=0 ????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

square both sides, and that will eliminate the sqrt then it would be a simple math

Ellie: I'd be much more interested in seeing how you arrived at your tentative solutions than in the solutions themselves. But given that y ou have two tentative solutions, check both in the original equation to determine whether or not the equation is true for each. @helpme1.2 is suggesting the approach that I would take. It does appear to me that we're going to have to do this "square both sides" business twice. Try it and see whether you agree or not.

I got x=0

OpenStudy (mathmale):

What do you mean by "I got x=0"? Have you shown that x=0 is a solution or is not a solution? Is 16 a solution or not, and in either case, why? Could you possibly show your work?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i assure u 0 isn't the the solution to your expression try work it out, not just guess

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got it the answer is x=16 thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's right

@ellie67 : I'd suggest you review this discussion and then plan to make your next online discussion more effective. For starters (but most important), please type out (or share an image of) the work you've already done, and state what it is that you want to know from someone on Open Study.
