The answer is A. Evolution does not occur immediately or to an individual organism. Darwin's theory states that evolution happens slowly over many generations of a species. The best-adapted individuals are more likely to survive and pass on these beneficial traits to their offspring (natural selection). This eventually leads to different species that are all descended from one. For example, zebras keep getting faster and faster to outrun cheetahs (and cheetahs keep getting faster to catch up to zebras). Eventually (thousands or millions of years), zebras may branch off into two different species: One that descended from the fastest zebras, and one that descended from, say, the strongest. We may end up with very small, quick, zebra-like animals that can outrun predators, and very large zebra-like animals that can fend off predators with their strength alone. But this DOES NOT HAPPEN with one single zebra suddenly turning very small and agile, or very large and strong! It happens over countless generations of natural selection! Sorry if that was more info than you wanted, but I just wanted to make sure you understood the theory behind the answer :P
