To which graph does the point (-1, -4) belong?
What are the graphs you are talking about?
y ≤ -x + 4 y ≤ -x - 5 y ≤ 2x - 3 y ≤ 5x + 1
Okay. In this problem, the point (-1, -4) tells you that x = -1 and y = -4. Try substituting the x and y values into each of the equations. Then simplify, and if the result is true, then (-1,-4) belongs to that graph. I'll do the first one for you. x = -1 y = -4 y <= -x + 4 Substitute -1 and -4 in place of x and y. -4 <= -(-1) + 4 -4 <= 1 + 4 -4 <= 5 The above is true; -4 is less than or equal to 5. So the first one is true. Test the other equations. Can you solve the question now?
The objective of OpenStudy is not to give answers straight out, but it is to HELP people with questions on those questions. Explaining concepts, doing some steps for them. That's why I did half of the work for you.
